I posted a list of the top 20 Traffic Exchanges that get me results, but sadly that doesn’t guarantee that you will do as well.
Before I give you a few tips on how to use them, I guess it would be useful to tell you what a traffic exchange is…
A Traffic exchange is exactly what it says it is – An Exchange of traffic. When you sign up you list your sales, splash or squeeze pages you want promoted. Then you ‘surf’ the exchange, this means that you visit other members sites for 5-10 seconds per page to earn credits. For every credit you earn, you get 1 visitor at your page. So surf 100 you get 100 visitors.
Most traffic exchanges have text ads and banner exchanges available too.
There is a right and a wrong way to use a Traffic Exchange effectively so today I thought I’d start you off with a few very quick tips.
1. Never list an affiliate link
Affiliate pages are all very well, but you only have 5-8 seconds to grab attention so you need to be original and eyecatching.
2. Create A Squeeze Page
Squeeze pages are simple pages that you can create to capture a prospects email so you can follow up with them later. Here is an example - Blogging For Beginners, A great place to get started with squeeze pages is Adkreator
3. Build A Subscriber List
It’s a fairly well known fact that someone needs to see something at least 7 times before they take action. By using a squeeze page to capture contact details you will be able to keep in touch and build a relationship. You do need to avoid some of the most common mistakes in listbuilding before you begin. I highly recommend using Aweber to build and maintain your list.
4. Brand Yourself
“People join people, not business’s” I’m sure you’ve heard that before a few times. By branding yourself, by adding your name and a photo on all your pages, people will start to recognize you and will consider looking at your promotions. The best way is to add your name and photo to your splash pages, but failing that a viral brander is very easy to use, as well as being eye-catching.
5. Track Your Results
Although the list I sent yesterday is good, results are different for everyone, so it’s very important to track your ads to see what is working, and what needs a little tweaking. There are a lot of different tracking services available so its a good idea to look around and find one that works well. One that I like is Trckrs.com
These five tips will see you through getting started, what other tips would you offer?
